一 | Veteran actress Hema Malini recently opened up about the emotional reason behind keeping her husband Dharmendra’s funeral private. The revelation came during her interaction with filmmaker Hamad Al Reyami, who met her in Mumbai after the legendary actor’s passing.
Hamad wrote that it was his first time meeting Hema Malini so closely, and he could sense “an inner turmoil she was desperately trying to hide.” During their conversation, she expressed deep regret over not spending more time with Dharmendra in his final months. Speaking with a trembling voice, she said, “I wish I had been at the farm on the same day I was with Dharmendra two months ago… I wish I had seen him there.”
Hema Malini also spoke about Dharmendra’s love for poetry and how she would often encourage him to publish his writings. Hema Malini recalled asking him, “Why don’t you publish your beautiful poems and writings?” but Dharmendra would simply smile and reply, “Not now… Let me finish some poems first.” Hamad added sadly, “But time didn’t spare him, and he passed away…” Explaining why his final rites were not public, Hema Malini said Dharmendra always wanted his dignity intact. She shared, “Dharmendra, throughout his life, never wanted anyone to see him weak or ill. He hid his pain even from his closest relatives. And after a person passes away, the decision rests with the family.”
She also revealed the painful reality of his last days. Hamad quoted her saying, while she wiped her tears: “But what happened was a mercy… because, Hamad, you couldn’t have borne to see him in that state. His condition in his final days was cruel… painful… and even we could hardly bear to see him like that.” Hamad concluded his note with a tribute to the actor, writing, “My forever hero legendary Superstar DHARMENDRA.”

The approach was tested during a youth weight management camp held from Aug. 8 to 10 by the Shanghai Health Promotion Center and Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. The camp involved 11 families with children aged 8 to 15 who were overweight or obese. The program used an AI-powered health management system called “Fuxing” to analyze participants’ metabolic, dietary, behavioral and mental health data, generating personalized health profiles and intervention plans. The system will continue to track participants after the camp, supporting long-term weight management through coordination among hospitals, communities and families. The camp also adopted a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach, bringing together specialists in pediatric endocrinology and genetics, clinical nutrition, cardiac rehabilitation and other fields. Experts assessed each child’s physical condition, lifestyle and psychological well-being before developing individualized management plans. During the program, specialists provided guidance on nutrition, exercise, mental health and obesity-related health risks, helping families build healthier daily habits. Participants also learned how to read food labels and make healthier dietary choices, while receiving information on medication and surgical options for obesity treatment, as well as traditional Chinese medicine approaches. The Shanghai Health Promotion Center said it will continue to strengthen cooperation among medical institutions, communities and schools, while promoting more systematic approaches to the prevention and management of childhood obesity.
